Description

The patch fixes a potential memory-safety vulnerability (ADE) in the Loongson GPU DMA hang fixup for Loongson LoongArch. Previously loongson_gpu_fixup_dma_hang() derived a regbase address from a base that could be miscomputed when a discrete PCIe GPU is present, leading to an invalid address being read via readl/ioremap in a switch-case path, causing an ADE (address error) and kernel crash. The fix adds a default case to the switch that unmaps regbase and returns early, preventing invalid memory access when the PCI device is not one of the expected Loongson GPU devices. This reduces risk of a memory-safety crash during PCI device setup.

Proof of Concept

PoC (conceptual): 1) Use a Loongson-based kernel that predates this patch (e.g., v7.0-rc6). 2) Boot with a PCIe GPU inserted that is not one of the Loongson GPU devices. 3) During PCI enumeration, pci_fixup_device calls loongson_gpu_fixup_dma_hang(). Without the patch, the code path may compute regbase from base+PCI_DEVICE_ID and read from an invalid address, resulting in a kernel ADE trap and a crash. 4) After applying the patch, the default case unmaps regbase and returns, preventing the ADE and avoiding the crash. Prerequisites: hardware with Loongson PCIe subsystem and an additional PCIe GPU; a kernel with and without the patch for comparison. Note: This PoC is a targeted crash test in a lab environment; it is not a remote-exploit PoC.

LoongArch: Fix potential ADE in loongson_gpu_fixup_dma_hang() The switch case in loongson_gpu_fixup_dma_hang() may not DC2 or DC3, and readl(crtc_reg) will access with random address, because the "device" is from "base+PCI_DEVICE_ID", "base" is from "pdev->devfn+1". Triage Assessment

Vulnerability Type: Memory Safety / Crash

Confidence: MEDIUM

Reasoning:

The patch adds a default case to handle an unexpected PCI device case in the Loongson GPU DMA hang fixup, ensuring safe cleanup (iounmap) and preventing a potential ADE (address error) caused by dereferencing an invalid address. This mitigates a memory-safety issue that could lead to a crash or potential exploitation if left exploitable. While primarily a stability fix, it directly addresses a memory-safety vulnerability in kernel DMA handling.

Verification Assessment
